The sweetest day is the third Saturday in October that is observed mainly by people in the Midwestern United States. While this may sound like Valentine’s Day over again, there is actually more to it than that.
History of Sweetest Day
The very first Sweetest Day was on October 10, 1921. A committee of confectioners put the day together. The committee was in charge of giving out 20,000 boxes of candy to newsboys, older people, orphans, and the poor all over Cleveland. Movie stars of the day, including Theda Bara and Ann Pennington, helped pass out some of the candy.
What Should I Do For The Sweetest Day?
If you are looking for ideas on celebrating Sweetest Day, we have a few ideas for you. So whether you plan to spend the day with your partner or with anyone you care about, there is something for you.
While taking your sweetheart out for a date should be a regular occurrence, you can do something extra special on the Sweetest day to set the day apart.
- Try a new fancier restaurant — of course, this will depend on your budget but try and find something new and exciting.
- Take a romantic hike — hiking isn’t for everyone, but it is a great way to get away from the world and focus on each other. If you are too lazy to hike, you can also find a secluded park or spot on the beach to relax with your sweetheart.
- Go to Bed Early — people in movies always joke about spending the day in bed, but what if you did or at least went to bed early. Spend some time rolling around in the sheets with you, sweetheart, just like you did when you were a new couple.
It doesn’t need to be Christmas to exchange gifts with people you love. Instead, plan to exchange gifts with each other and make the day memorable for you both.
Visit Those In Need
I know this might sound cheesy, but people like the elderly and orphans don’t celebrate holidays and special occasions like families do. So visiting them and dropping off some gifts can make them, and you, feel good.
Make Treats Together
Now, you can do this with just about anyone. Find some crazy recipes online and whip up some sweet treats to enjoy or even share with others. Look for something new you can make to create a new tradition.
